Performing acts prohibited by the state is action outside the legal authority and violates licensure rules. Licensure boards discipline professionals who exceed or ignore the boundaries set by statutes and rules governing radiologic practice because such acts threaten patient safety and undermine the profession’s integrity. When someone conducts procedures they’re not authorized to perform, or otherwise violates mandatory laws and board regulations, that behavior is grounds for disciplinary action.

In contrast, providing care within scope, documenting records accurately, and following hospital policy are all expected, compliant behaviors that support safe, lawful practice. None of these would inherently trigger discipline when performed correctly.
